Working with Local Churches

The Church of Scotland is the national Church in Scotland which seeks to serve the entire community through its system of parishes. Our parish at present stretches from the southern end of Crookston Road near the Hurlet, just inside Glasgow, through Dunterlie and all the way through Lower Auchenback to Bank Street.

Together with the other two Church of Scotland Congregations in the town (Arthurlie and Bourock) and the Barrhead United Reformed Church, while retaining our separate buildings, ministers and organisational structures, we are moving towards working together as one Barrhead Church to serve the whole town as a single parish. A Covenant setting forth the objectives and means of achieving them has recently been signed.

The four churches above are involved in the Barrhead Churches Youth Project, which is intended to reach out to young people in the town.

We support enthusiastically Action of Barrhead Churches (ABC) which brings together most of the churches, Protestant and Catholic, in the Levern Valley.  ABC organises a number of united church events during the year. The Easter Walk of Witness and the Easter and Christmas United Services are annual events and various other projects are undertaken at appropriate times.

A Prayer for Renewal

Spirit of God,
when all seems brittle and dead
you come with breath and life
to move across the dry bones of our lives
and help us find the spring of new life.
Each new day you come to us,
and as the sleep falls from our eyes
once more, again, we start afresh
to laugh, and work and live
and be ourselves the new creation
born from above.
Into the brittle, breaking world, breathe life.
Into the clamorous, edgy world,
breathe peace.
Into the dull and dreamless world,
breathe vision.
Into my world, which is your world,
breathe the faith, hope and love
that makes all life worth the living.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.  Amen.
